Sedation Dentistry for a Calm, Comfortable Visit

If you feel anxious about dental treatment, you are not alone. At 58 Peaks Dental, you can receive sedation to help you stay relaxed while protecting your oral health. You have access to three sedation options: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV sedation.

Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask and helps you feel calm during your appointment.

Oral sedation is taken in pill form before your visit to reduce anxiety while keeping you awake but deeply relaxed.

IV sedation provides a deeper level of relaxation and is carefully administered and monitored throughout your procedure.

You remain our top priority throughout your visit. Your vital signs are monitored, and your comfort is consistently assessed to ensure a smooth and safe experience from start to finish.

Prepare for Your Procedure

(IV and oral sedation)

  • Follow Fasting Guidelines: You should not eat for at least 8 hours before your appointment. You may drink small amounts of water up to a few hours prior, unless instructed otherwise.
  • Arrange for a Driver: You must have a responsible adult drive you to your appointment and take you home afterward if you are receiving oral or IV sedation. You should not drive yourself.
  • Plan for Aftercare Support: Have someone stay with you for several hours after your procedure to help you rest and recover safely.
  • Dress Comfortably: Wear loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves to allow easy placement of monitoring equipment.
  • Talk to Your Team About Medications: Be sure to review all medications with our team and follow any specific instructions given to you.

Dental Sedation Next Steps

  • Rest and Recover: You should plan to rest for the remainder of the day if you received oral or IV sedation. Avoid strenuous activity and give your body time to fully recover.
  • Follow Post-Op Instructions: You will receive specific aftercare instructions based on your procedure. Follow them carefully, including medication guidelines and eating recommendations.
  • Avoid Driving or Operating Machinery: If you had oral or IV sedation, you should not drive, operate machinery, or make important decisions for at least 24 hours.
  • Monitor for Unusual Symptoms: Contact the office if you experience prolonged dizziness, nausea, excessive bleeding, swelling, or any unexpected discomfort.
  • Schedule or Attend Follow-up Visits: You may need a follow-up appointment to monitor healing or continue treatment. Follow-up visits help keep your smile healthy and your recovery on track.
